Cardinale Cabernet sauvignon Napa Valley 2008
The Cardinale was born in 1982 with a mission to produce a unique Cabernet Sauvignon from the highest quality vineyards in the Napa Valley. All sub-appeals in the region had to be considered, and grape sources could change from year to year to create the most distinctive wine from each vintage.
Today, the Cardinale has far exceeded all expectations. Limited in production, it is a powerful and seamless Cabernet Sauvignon with a track record for drinking deliciously after release and maturing beautifully in the cellar.
Mountain-grown grapes have increasingly emerged as the basis for the Cardinale blend - especially those from Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain - yet benchland grapes and a small amount of Merlot add layers of complexity in each vintage.
The core of the Cardinale are wineries located in two primary sub-appeals, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. The supporting components come from mountain and benchland plantations in Spring Mountain, Diamond Mountain, St. Helena and Stags Leap. Mountain-grown fruit is elemental in the Cardinale, as vines fight in the thin, rocky soils and on steep slopes, thus producing grapes with intense flavor, layered complexity and age-worthy tannins. At lower altitudes, the fruit has a more vibrant floral character, rich mediums and finer tannins. Mixture brings it all together into a unique wine.
