Ben Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Valley 2017 magnum
Ben Glaetzer was literally born to be a winemaker. His father is Colin Glaetzer, Barossa Valley's "grand old man". When Ben's playmates were handing out newspapers or mowing the lawn to get their pocket money, the young Glaetzer went to hand in his father's vineyard. At the age of 14, he could actually work as a full-fledged winemaker, although according to the Australian authorities, he was not allowed to taste the wine until he turned 18 (which of course he complied with…).
Robert Parker's Australian favorite
Ben Glaetzer is the Australian who has scored the most reviews over 95 points in Robert Parker's wine magazine, The Wine Advocate. The recipe for his success is quite simple; Harvest a limited yield from exceptionally old vines (up to 120 years), which grow on the best fields. By vinifying the wines very gently, Ben preserves the elegance and freshness of the wines, even if they are colossally concentrated.
Amon-Ra from Glaetzer Winery
Amon-Ra is Ben Glazzer's top wine, and also one of the world's best Syrah / Shiraz wines. The wine is made from grapes from the exclusive Ebenezer district of the Barossa Valley, and is aged for 15 months in 100% new casks of French and American oak. In the glass it appears ink black. The scent is colossally rich and complex, with shades of concentrated berries, mocha, English licorice, minerals, and vanilla. The taste is explosively aromatic and opens up layer after layer after layer. The aftertaste lasts several minutes.
