Frederiksberg Chocolate - Tina Jacobsen
Craftsmanship - Quality & Tradition since 1923
Frederiksberg Chocolate's history goes back 100 years, and many of the old recipes and techniques are still in use today. Since 1996, however, owner and chief chocolatier Tina Jacobsen has raised the quality, assortment and craftsmanship to new heights, which has been awarded with countless awards, including the industry's most distinguished Saint Honoré order.
Own plantation
In 2019, Frederiksberg Chocolate bought their own plantation in Columbia, Bellacasa, near Piraeus. The plantation is located in approx. 1,400 meters high and is planted with 1/3 old varieties, which they take great care to preserve, and 2/3 new varieties that they planted in September 2019. Most other plantations are today cut down or replanted with coffee or hybrid cocoa trees , and therefore Frederiksberg Chokolade has tried to do their part to avoid this.
The plantation is their spice garden, where they can make pure chocolates from the old varieties, or mix up with the new trees. In November 2020, they planted banana palms which can provide shade for the cocoa trees, of which they have subsequently added 12,000 new trees.
The plantation does not use pesticides and thus produces cocoa trees in its pure form, and no forms of child labor are used. They have hired the sweetest family to help them when they can't be there themselves. Frederiksberg Chokolade would like to try to make a difference for the local area, so they have therefore started a project at the local school, about taking care of nature. They have a culture where you just throw rubbish where you stand. Frederiksberg Chokolade is trying to change this attitude locally by setting a better example.
