Weingut Leitz Riesling Berg Schlossberg Rudesheim GG Ehrenfels Rheingau 2016

Large "Grand Cru" wine from the field Berg Schlossberg, where the soil consists primarily of red slate and quartzite. The rocky soil does not hold water for long, and combined with the many hours of sunshine that the steep, south-facing slope gets, this means that the vines often suffer from water shortages early in the year. As a result, they produce quite a few and quite small grapes, but which in turn are concentrated and incredibly aromatic.

Color: Straw yellow.
Aroma: Charming and inviting, with beeswax and nectarine but also more tropical fruits and a clear minerality.
Taste notes: Mirabelles and grapefruit, lime-like acid and a touch of salt. Intense men with finesse and balance.

Serving suggestions: Light fish dishes, mussels and seafood

Johannes Leitz took over the family vineyard from his father in 1999 after being in charge of winemaking since 1985. Under Johannes' ownership, Leitz has only gone one way - upwards! The quality has increased from god to world class and one has managed by expanding the fields with some of the best plots around the city of Rüdesheim.

The hillside west of and around Rüdesheim is one of the most magical terroirs in the world for making wine on the Riesling grape - and thus one of the most magical terroirs in the world for making white wine! This is where we find, among others, the plots Berg Schloβberg, Berg Rottland, Berg Roseneck and Berg Kaisersteinfels, all four of which enjoy the highest possible classification and recognition in Germany's hierarchy.
