Castello Banfi Poggio alle Mura Rosso di Montalcino Toscany 2016

This wine comes from the Italian wine house, Castello Banfi, which is located in Tuscany. Castello Banfi is definitely one of Italy's leading and most prestigious wineries. Castello Banfi was named "Best Italian Winery" at VinItaly 2010 - it was the twelfth time in seventeen years that Castello Banfi ran with this great title! Castello Banfi is a pioneer in the research and development of clones - and they have, as the only winery in Italy, six clones registered. This wine is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown on the vineyards of Castello Banfi in the Montalcino area of Italy.

However, it is not ordinary Sangiovese grapes that are used, but rather special Banfi clones of the Sangiovese grape. These clones have been specially developed for 20 years by Castello Banfi and "The University of Milan"; in 1982 they started selecting clones, in 1992 they planted the first clones around Castello Banfi and in 1997 they harvested the first vintage.
