Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Classico Monte Olmi Veneto 2010
The Tedeschi family has been growing wine for five generations. The house was founded in 1824, when Nicolò Tedeschi put all his savings in some vineyards. At the same time, he made it a family tradition to invest every penny in fields every time you got the chance to buy in the very best microclimates. Today, the house is run by Nicolò's great-grandson, Riccardo Tedeschi, who enjoys the family's land holdings in the very best parts of Valpolicella and Soave.
Monte Olmi brand
The Monte Olmi field is located near the town of Pedemonte in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico district. The soil consists of ferrous clay and spotty deposits of limestone. The clay gives grapes with perfect maturity and fullness of fullness, while the limestone gives the wine acidity and vibrating resilience. Riccardo Tedeschi humbly says that he does nothing but harvest the grapes - the quality of the wine comes exclusively from the field. That's probably only half the truth. In order to get the best out of the field, Riccardo cuts the vines hard, and he harvests only about 25 hectoliters per hectare. As the field is only 2.5 hectares in size, the annual production amounts to less than 1,000 boxes per year, if the wine is produced at all. The amarone from the Monte Olmi field is only offered in the very largest vintages.
Amarone Classico Monte Olmi
The Amarone from the Monte Olmi field constantly scores high reviews in the international wine magazines. The wine is often seen achieving scores as high as four to five times more expensive wines. In the glass, the wine appears with Amaronen's classic brick red color. The scent is incredibly intense, saturated with shades of ripe berries, dried fruits and a hint of bitter almond. The taste is extremely rich and intense — an explosion of fruit — and the aftertaste lasts over a minute. An amazing Amarone experience.
