Aurelio Settimo Langhe Nebbiolo Piedmont 2016
Aurelio Settimo Langhe Nebbiolo can be said to be a little brother to the Barolo, for Settimo makes this wine with grapes from the same area as his Barolo, but from younger vines. The combination of shorter maceration time and zero barrel storage means that this Langhe Nebbiolo is ready to drink largely from release. It is a charismatic wine with round tannins that does not require decades in the cellar to soften up.
Aurelio Settimo is known for making some amazingly beautiful wines according to traditional regulations in La Morra in Piedmont, i.a. from the distinguished land Rocche dell'Annunziata. La Morra is known for their elegant, airy, intense Barolos and that's exactly how Settimo tastes. The wines age incredibly well and their expression is "Old School" in the very (!) Good way. 100% of the grapes come from own fields, where the age of the vines varies from 20 to 50 years. On average, Aurelio Settimo produces about 40,000 bottles a year. Most of these are Barolo DOCG or Barolo from the Rocche dell’Annunziata. The grapes that do not quite live up to the towering standard are used in the winery's Langhe Nebbiolo. About 60% of the production is exported. Throughout the wines are the nerve, the energy, the tantalizing, bright fruit and the classic, discreet notes of tar, rose petals and dried flowers.
