Château Calon Ségur (3rd Cru), the northernmost of the classified Cru castles in Médoc, is located northwest of the village of Saint Estèphe. Château Calon Ségur is said to be one of the three oldest wineries in Saint Estèphe. The castle's history dates back to 1147, when it was owned by the Monseigneur de Calon. The property changed owners - like most other castles in Bordeaux - and after being owned by the de Ségur family for generations, it ended up belonging to the Marquis de Ségur, which also owned the 1st Cru castles Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Latour in Pauillac . He is quoted as saying: "I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon", which is why the heart has been a symbol of Château Calon Ségur for many years.
