Altos de Rioja started making wine in September 2006. The wine is produced on a farm in the heart of the best wine region in Rioja Alavesa, passionately led by a group of experienced professionals. With extensive experience from the Spanish wine world, Roberto San Ildefonso from Finca Sobreño in Toro and Bienvenido Muñoz from Bodegas Muñoz in La Mancha have teamed up with winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua from Bordeaux to create a range of unique and modern Rioja wines.
After careful selection, the grapes are crushed and stored in small 2000-liter tanks, where it is cold-macerated for four days before fermenting for ten days between 25 and 30 ° C. The final malolactic fermentation takes 15 days, and takes place on oak before the wine undergoes a barrel aging. To give this wine a distinctive barrel character, it matures on both French and American oak for 20 months.
The scent is strong and very complex with mineral notes, red berries, eucalyptus and white pepper, as well as balsamic vinegar and spices. The taste is strong, but also sweet and fresh. There is great complexity with red fruit flavors, spices and a very long finish.
