A VERY RARE AND OLD RESERVE
All good things must have an end, and nothing seems to disappear faster than one's favorite reserves of wine or spirits.
This was the case with the Château Lafite Rothschild, where the stocks of old cognac cellars in the Château quickly disappeared over many years. Nothing can replace the pleasure of an exceptional cognac after a meal where the finest and rarest wines have been served, so something had to be done.
Fortunately, the "vignerones" of Cognac and some of their dealer's friends have kept the tradition alive by saving a certain percentage of their own liquor production for themselves each year.
They feel that there is no better "nest egg" than to let these unusual cognacs age in their own cellars, and better than any other investment, these reserves will allow them to leave their daughters, buy the long-desired piece of land or, simply have the pleasure of consuming them on the threshold of their life.
To create "Reserve Lafite Rothschild", they continue in the old fashioned way, setting aside here and there unusual lots, aided by wine brokers who know where and when to find interesting and very old barrels.
Every year, the Château Lafite Rothschild technical team selects Cognacs of at least 50 years, all made from the best crus of the appellation, Grande Champagne and Borderies. They maintain the tradition by constantly searching for perfect blend, elegance, balance, the complexity of a unique Cognac that is worth all their best wines.
In this way, Château Lafite Rothschild has a cognac that can live up to its reputation. They decided to release a few bottles from the private consumption at the Château to good friends and passionate wine lovers.
Lafite Cognac, due to its rarity and long storage, shows a complexity, agility and unique aromatic persistence, which makes it ideal to enjoy as a digestive at the end of a meal.
