Quinta Sardonia

This producer is located in the region of Castilla y Leon. They have 20 hectares of land, of which 17 of the hectares are planted with grapes. They lie between 400 and 7-800 meters above sea level. The slopes were planted in 1999 and 2000 with Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cultivation follows strict biodynamic principles. In order to preserve the natural balance of the soil, we fertilize with our own compost, the vines are treated with medicinal plants and both cultivation and harvesting and bottling are done taking into account the movements of the moon Quinta Sardonia is located at Sardón de Duero 6 km west of Quintanilla de Onésimo, where Peter Sisseck has its Pingus cellars, and was established as a biodynamic winery in 2000.
The vineyard was planted with Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Syrah, and Peter Sisseck has had the opportunity to try his hand at very young vines and see how the different grape varieties thrive in this terroir . The first vintage of Quinta Sardonia was 2002, when 6,000 bottles were produced on the just 2-year-old vines, and the new wine was an immediate success, with the 2004 vintage – on 4-year-old vines – achieving 96 points at Robert Parker, with which Quinta Sardonia registered as the first and so far only wine to achieve such a high rating on such young vines.
