Plumpjack Estate Winery
Merlot 2019
Napa Valley California
Before PlumpJack Estate Winery, there was just a humble wine shop that opened in 1992 in the Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco called PlumpJack Wines. Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty open the wine shop with a mission to create a welcoming environment for people to learn about and buy wine.
PlumpJack Winery was founded in 1997 when the PlumpJack Group acquired a century-old, 21-acre vineyard in Napa Valley on Oakville Cross Road.
PlumpJack was the first winery in Napa Valley to begin using screw caps as closures for fine wines. The winery is one of several businesses operated by the PlumpJack Group. The company's name is inspired by Shakespeare's Sir John Falstaff (Henry IV), dubbed Plump Jack by Queen Elizabeth.
With their success in PlumpJack Estate Wineries, partners Gavin Newson, Gordon Getty and John Conover have also opened Cade Estate Winery and Odette Estate Winery. All three wineries work under the same values, focusing on sustainable agriculture
