Pierre Jean Villa 2017
Côte-Rôtie Carmina
Pierre Jean Villa learned the winemaking trade in the 1990s in Burgundy with Mommesin - one of the area's very big names. When he returned home to the Rhône in 2003, he became part of Vins de Vienne, and in 2009 he found the time ripe to start his own enterprise. It has now blossomed to 14 hectares of vineyards distributed in the Rhône, including in Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The wines are made with the utmost respect for the land and the grape, and the "non-interventionist" approach includes, among other things, spontaneous fermentation and almost no filtration. From the 2015 vintage, mainly used casks are used for storage.
Alongside Pierre's Rhône adventure, he also started a Burgundy house together with another prominent wine figure: Olivier Decelle. The two houses, Pierre Jean Villa and Decelle-Villa share the vision of pure, terroir-driven and elegant wines.
