Domaine Louis Latour 2020
Hospice de Beaune Premier Cru
In 1443, the Chancellor of Burgundy founded the Hôpital de la Sainte-Trinité – today the Hospices de Beaune – which for almost six centuries has functioned as a charitable institution for the sick and elderly and in that time has received quite a few vineyards among their many donations.
The newest vintage of casks of wine from these vineyards is sold at auction every year, and on that occasion we have bid on this wine, which is made from Pinot Noir from three 1st Cru parcels in Beaune.
Vinification
Everything oozes tradition in wines from Hospices de Beaune and thus also in this one, which is fermented in open fermentation tanks and subsequently aged for approx. 12 months in a slightly used oak cask.
The wine is then bottled and fully stored in Louis Latour's old cellars until release in the summer of 2022
Aroma and taste
The finished wine reveals a beautiful and – for Pinot Noir – deep ruby color when viewed through the glass. The depth continues in the nose to a serious masquerade of red, juicy berries, light spices, moist forest floor, dried herbs, roasted almonds and dark associations with blueberries and 80% chocolate.
