Solaia Tenuta Tignanello
Marchesi Antinori IGT 2021
A magnificent vintage of an exceptional wine
2021 was an extraordinary vintage that created wines of exquisite finesse. The spring frost had minimal impact, but resulted in a slower growth of the vines. From here followed a dry and warm season without extreme fluctuations. The crucial final phase of maturation took place in moderate conditions, which ensured a long aging time that compensated for the slow start and allowed the tannins to mature fully. A wine with great elegance and complexity
Tignanello and Solaia are both characterized by a rare elegance, which is the result of an optimal growing season and the refined approach that CEO Renzo Cotarella and his team introduced with the 2004 vintage. The wine offers intense aromas of dark plums, licorice, chocolate, mocha, spices, lavender and menthol, which merge into a harmonious experience. Oak and tannins are present, but perfectly balanced – a big, monumental wine.
About Antinori
Marchesi Antinori is the epitome of Italian wine history and stands as a beacon in the wine world for 26 generations. With a wine tradition spanning 630 years, the Antinori family can trace its heritage back to 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori was admitted to the 'Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri', the order of winemakers in Florence. Today, Marchesi Antinori is a member of Primum Familiae Vini – an exclusive association of 12 of the world's most prestigious, family-owned wine houses. Already in the Renaissance, the Marchesi Antinori was a renowned wine house, and Allesandro Antinori was one of the richest citizens of Florence – a city that was then an epicenter of art and literature with names such as Leonardo da Vinci and Dante Alighieri. To this day, Antinori is still family-owned and run with an uncompromising approach to quality, where care for even the smallest details and an eternal pursuit of improvement are the foundation.
Tignanello – A revolution in Italian wine
In 1974, Marchesi Antinori launched the first Tignanello, one of the first so-called Super Tuscans, which changed the Italian wine world forever. Created from a blend of Sangiovese and the then 'forbidden' international grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the wine became a true pioneer in a new wave of top Italian wines. Tignanello is today one of the most iconic and significant wines in Italian history. But Antinori's story is far from finished. This is clear when you visit their impressive winery, where modern elegance meets centuries of tradition. Everything from works of art by Leonardo da Vinci and Giovanni Della Robbia to the spectacular view of the vineyards testify to a winery that manages to unite heritage and innovation. Marchesi Antinori is constantly experimenting with new grape varieties, varying altitudes of vineyards, alternative fermentation methods and different casks for aging – all with one goal: to create incomparable wines. Today, Albiera Antinori is the director of Marchesi Antinori, with the support of her sisters Allegra and Alessia, while their father, Marchese Piero Antinori, holds the title of Honorary President.
Solaia 2021 has already achieved 100 points from Vinous, which confirms the wine's exceptional quality and status as one of the world's absolute best wines.
