Papalin Jamaica 5-year-old rum is a new, exceptional release from Velier, created by visionary rum expert Luca Gargano. This rum takes us back to a bygone era when Jamaican merchants in the late 1800s crafted unique tropical blends. Back then, rum was an art form, and the origins of the distilleries often remained a secret. In the 1970s, large distilleries took over the sale of their own products, and the tradition disappeared – but now Papalin is here to revive it.
The Details Behind This Rum
This exclusive blend is a fusion of three exquisite Jamaican distilleries, all tropically aged in their respective locations. For the 2024 edition, this means a combination of Worthy Park, which has matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks, and Hampden LROK, which has gained depth from ex-sherry casks. The result is an authentic, intense, and complex experience that both honors tradition and sets new quality standards. This 2024 edition has been blended from 63 different casks.
Tasting Notes
Nose: An explosion of fruity esters with notes of ripe bananas, pineapple, and vanilla. Underlying aromas of spices and a subtle smokiness.
Palate: A harmonious balance between tropical fruit, caramel, toffee, and warm spices. The rum’s long aging in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks adds depth with chocolate and dried fruit.
Finish: Long and complex with notes of oak, light tannins, and a hint of tropical warmth.
