Niepoort 20 Years Old Tawny
Niepoort is known for their amazingly tasty port wines. They have been making wines since the 19th century, and over the years have won a sea of awards and accolades from various reviewers around the world. Tawnies with an age indication like this 20-year-old, is a blend of several different port wines with an average age of 20 years. Niepoort produces at 10, 20 and 30 years Tawny. The long time the wines are on casks helps to give it its characteristic taste and tawny color (tawny = leather). Tawnies are good because of their complex aroma, freshness and persistent bouquet. After a meal, an old Tawny is always a good match as an aperitif or for dessert. With older port wines like this, there will be some natural sediment. It is therefore important to raise the bottle a few hours before serving, after which it should be decanted. The tawny is stored in small oak barrels in the basement of the Vila Nova de Gaia farm, for many years. The balanced marriage between the special characteristics and the diverse age is behind Niepoort Master Blender José Nogueira. A nice brick red, brownish color with an orange tinge creates a nice depth with good complexity. A fantastic aroma of crystallized fruits as well as the taste of dried apricots. A smooth, well-integrated nut-alcohol-like finish dominates the aftertaste. Serve slightly cooled around 16-18ºC. Can evt. take out of the fridge a few hours before drinking. If it is to be stored, it is important that it is stored in a cool room without sunlight.
