Taylors Vintage 2017

Then port does not get much bigger ... Parker goes straight to 98-100 points, and James Suckling awards 99 points and calls it "Truly excellent". Taylor’s has always selected their Vintage extra carefully and since 1900 there have only been 36 releases.

Taylor has already been out comparing their 2017 with such a legendary vintage as 1945. 2017 has a nice deep, ruby red color which is almost purple at the edge. The scent is both rich and complex with notes of violet, dark forest berries and hints of eucalyptus and licorice. The vintage is both powerful, concentrated and complex with an impressive depth of taste. The structure indicates an impressive storage potential of 50 to 75 years. A huge wine that can be enjoyed alone or perhaps for a large and juicy, red pepper steak. Remember to take it chilled in large red wine glasses.

Taylor's - or Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, as it is aptly called - is over 300 years old. Taylor’s has been producing some of the world’s best wines since 1692, and is always at the great end of the 100-point scale when it comes to handing out points. The grapes for the port wines from Taylor's are grown in the Douro Valley on Taylor's own three vineyards; Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco. The lands of the three wineries are all classified in group A, which is the absolute best group. The microclimates on the three farms are very different, and this results in complex and powerful port wines, which are particularly suitable for storage. Taylor’s is best known for their Vintage Port, but also makes both Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage and White Port, all of which are of immeasurably high quality. Taylor's has always been a frontrunner for the development of the port wine industry, and was the first to buy their own fields out in the Douro Valley in 1744, they were the first to make a Single-Quinta Vintage (a Vintage with grapes from only one farm), and even were it also the ones who invented Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) in 1970. Wine writers all over the world are also really enthusiastic about Taylor's, and even compare them to some of the biggest wineries in the world, i.a. Robert Parker, who has compared them to Chateâu Latour: "that is reminiscent of a stellar vintage of Chateau Latour".
