Taylors 1977 Vintage Port

Taylor's 1977 Vintage

Wine producer: Taylor's
Region: Douro
Wineries: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita, Quinta de Junco
The grapes were harvested in: 1977
bottled: 1979
Storage: 2 years in oak barrels

Taylor's vintage port is not made every year. A small portion of the grapes are specially selected and here only the most viable and finest grapes are chosen by Taylor. Subsequently, Taylors selects the best port wines from the 3 wineries Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta de Junco, and pours them into oak barrels, where they are stored for 2 winters, where the wines are then sampled again afterwards. After this tasting, they are then judged, and if there is the slightest doubt as to whether these wines have the potential to become a vintage port on Taylor's part, it ends here. If the Taylors think it has the potential to be a great vintage, they bottle it and declare it a classic Vintage Port.

Taylors dates back to 1692, and over time has developed what is generally believed to be a classic Vintage Port and until the new millennium only made 3 Vintage Ports per decade, and that others are also looking at what Taylors is doing.

In addition to being an incredible vintage as a Vintage Port for Taylors, 1977 is. This is also the year that electricity will come to the winery Quinta de Vargellas for the first time.
