Bodega Guelbenzu Lombana Ribera del Queiles 2009
This red wine is based on the grapes Graciano, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, and is barrel aged for ten months on both French and American oak barrels. The wine is from 2009, and has since been bottled, which makes it extremely mature.
There are only two wineries in the small "Ribera del Queiles" appellation, one of which is Bodega Guelbenzu. Guelbenzu's history dates back to 1851 with Don Martín María Guelbenzu. It was his son, Miguel Guelbenzu, who modernized and developed the vineyard, winning significant awards in 1880 in the form of medals and accolades. These medals still adorn the labels of their wines to this day.
The wine has a deep garnet red color with purple edges. Fine and intense nose with aromas of black fruits and woody tones. The taste is intense, but followed by a silky mid-flavor and a lingering finish.
