Perinet Likka Priorat 2018
The name of Likka comes from the Celtic language and it means 'stone'. Given the rocky area that covers the Priorat earth, this name represents the spirit of the Priorat in the bottle. The vines grow over llicorella - the name used for slate soil, gives salts and earth notes to this wine along with a fresh acid. This blend, which benefits from Mediterranean sunlight, shows tobacco and smoked wood notes in the nose and dry raisins, blackberry liqueur and strawberry jam in the mouth. A friendly and fresh tannin harmonizes with cinnamon and forest notes. This blend is the perfect combination to enjoy by the glass.
Merlot and Syrah for this wine come from Perinet's estate vineyard Mas Vell, which is planted south of the vineyard with full sun exposure that maximizes potential maturity for the grapes. Mas Vell sits at a higher altitude, which allows for open exposure to the canopy and cooling wind to preserve the acidity of the grapes. Garnatxa and Carinyena come from the Mas d'en Xes vineyard, which is planted behind the vineyard and forms a natural amphitheater near the base of the Montsant mountain range.
