Trappist Westvleteren 12
Trappist Westvleteren 12 is one of the most famous and sought-after Trappist beers in the world. Brewed by the monks of the Saint Sixtus Monastery in Westvleteren, Belgium, it is known for its complexity and deep flavor profile.
Brewed by: Sankt Sixtus monastery in Westvleteren
Trappist designation: Genuine Trappist product (brewed in the monastery by or under the supervision of the monks)
Ingredients: Barley malt, hops, yeast, sugar and water.
Type: Quadruple
Alcohol percentage (ABV): 10.2%
The Westvleteren 12 is known for its rarity. It is only sold in very limited quantities directly from the monastery, and prior reservation is required to purchase it. Due to its popularity, it is often difficult to get hold of without being lucky.
The Westvleteren monks have repeatedly stated that they only brew enough beer to run the monastery, not for pure profit. They themselves say "We brew beer for a living, but we don't live for beer"
