THE DEBATE was founded in 2010 with the vision to use as a social tool – not only to bring people together, but also to create space for dialogue where we can explore our differences, similarities and celebrate them.
Each bottle is a reflection of Napa Valley's diverse terroir and the influence that climate, soil and location have on the character of the wine. By using the same vinification methods for each wine, we get a true experience of the diversity of the terroir and a snapshot of a unique vintage.

Each year of THE DEBATE is wrapped in a newspaper that highlights the year's most significant debate topics – politics, sports, pop culture and world events. It allows you to immerse yourself in a time, a place and a shared moment.

Edna Valley is located among the northwest-southeast running volcanic hills of San Luis Obispo County and is the border of the most complex cool climate varieties in California, most notably Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The transverse valley is an extension of the ocean, with a funnel leading past Morro Bay, 3,600 feet below the Pacific Ocean. The cold Pacific breeze sweeps down the coast and into the valley and vineyards, creating a microclimate ideal for ripening delicate Pinot Noir grapes. Fluctuations in hot and cold are further enhanced by the Pismo Venturi effect that clears the evening fog. Edna Valley, the coolest appellation in California, has all the elements for crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines to rival anyone in the world. In Edna Valley, much like the earth and the climate meet, the passion of winemaker Robin Baggett has converged. Dreams of owning a cattle ranch brought him to the area nearly 40 years ago; the revelation of the valley as a remarkable place for Pinot Noir ignited its zeal to build complex, nuanced and balanced wines of excellence. A true supporter of terroir and the deepest hint of place, along with his winemaking team, his mission is to discover the valley's best pockets of land, and through the art of uniting the right places, clones, rootstocks and farming methods, create extraordinary Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays , which are the purest expressions of the Edna Valley.

Va Piano Vineyards is located in Walla Walla, Washington, USA. The company was founded by Justin Wylie, who as a native Walla Walla'rian had the thriving vineyards literally in his backyard. Like so many others, he was drawn to the magic of grapes and started making wine in his garage. It wasn't long before the passion could be turned into a livelihood, and in 2003 Va Piano was founded.

Va Piano works with a number of superb fields in Walla Walla, and especially worth mentioning is the eponymous Va Piano field, which is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cab Franc & Petit Verdot. 70% of the grapes are used by Va Piano itself, while the rest are sold to other houses, such as L'Ecole #41.

Walla Walla Valley Washington

After a hot, tumultuous 2015 that produced some great wine, 2016 was a return to a more normal vintage. The growing season was a bit cooler and allowed us to hang the grapes a little longer to achieve perfectly ripeness without sacrificing any character. Everything started pretty perfectly in the spring and continued through, giving us our largest crop to date. Despite the increased yields, the long season allowed us to take in grapes that produced wine with incredible depth and grace. Fall rains held out until the very end, as we were taking in the last of our grapes, so we were mostly unaffected by any weather event this year. The result isimmediate drink-ability in all of our wines, but the wine in the bottle will continue to mature for as long as your patience can hold out.

A princely Syrah from the field Stoney Vine in Walla Walla, Washington! Here you get a real slap for the penny, with tons of juicy fruit and meatiness. Stoney Vine is a relatively young field, planted in 2007, located on the old river bed shaped by the Walla Walla River. Rhône varieties grow here primarily and the field has quickly become a favorite among the lucky few winemakers who have access to the fruit from there.

Va Piano Syrah Les Collines is a beautiful and perfect red wine from Walla Walla, Washington. It is made from 100% Syrah from the field Les Collines – which Va Piano itself calls their favorite of the fields that are not their own. Les Collines is one of the highest fields in Walla Walla, and also one of the leaders in "minimal input farming".

The Woodward Canyon Artist series began in 1992 with the intent to showcase the finest cabernet sauvignon in Washington State. The vineyards used in the Artist Series are amopng the oldelst and most highly regarded in the state, with typical vine age of 30 years. Aged in French oak for 22 months, this cabernet sauvignon dominant blend is robust, elegant and lingering. Each vintage we select artwork from a Pacific Northwest artist to feature alongside this special bottling. Our featered artist for this vintage is Jodie Stejer of Sandpoint.

Here are both old and new vines, the grapes are picked by hand, and the field is certified sustainable. Microscopic yield, towering quality.

Today it is a family business, and both Rick's wife and children Rick's children and wife are part of the winery. Particular emphasis is placed on field work - and it is no wonder, given that Rick's family has been farmers (and women) for four generations. The fields are all certified Salmon Safe and are being converted to organic and biodynamic agriculture.

By 1981, Woodward Canyon Winery had taken shape as Walla Walla's only second winery! The plantings have been continuously expanded, so that today they comprise 41 acres = 16.6 hectares. Today it is a family business, and both Rick's wife and children are part of the winery. Particular emphasis is placed on working in the field – and it's no wonder, given that Rick's family have been farmers (and women) for four generations. The fields are all certified Salmon Safe and are being converted to organic and biodynamic farming.

Old vines - Cabernet Sauvignon - Washington State

Since our founding in 1981 our Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon has been produced from vines planted in the early 1970´s. Located nearly 110 miles apart on two distinct benches above Columbia River, Champoux and Sagamoor Vineyards are among the oldest and most highly acclaimed vineyards in Washington State.
We dedicate our Old Vines to Mr. A.P. Woodward who circa 1860 settled on 400 acres of what was formally Washington Territory. Nestled within this land near the present-day agricultural community of Lowden lies Woodward Canyon. Now, more than 150 years later the canyon that bears his name supports a hillside vineyard and a winery that proudly carries his name.
