Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcine 2017
Castello Romitorio
Brunello di Montalcino 2017
The flagship of Castello Romitorio, the phenomenal Brunello di Montalcino, is made from pure Sangiovese from Romitorio's own fields in the northwestern area of Montalcino. The grapes are harvested manually and carefully sorted before and after destemming, and the wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle before release.
Since 1984, Castello Romitorio has dedicated itself to studying, exploring and refining the Brunello de Montalcino wines. At the heart of this exploration is the close bond between Italian artist Sandro Chia and Brunello expert and cellar master Franco Martini. Equally close is the bond between Sandro's son, Filippo, and Franco's son, Stefano, who today runs Castello Romitorio. An in-depth knowledge of, and respect for, the local landscape, its heritage and traditions, helps to shape everything that Castello Romitorio does, whether in the field, in the winery or in the cellar - and the latter has not only oenological function, but like the rest of the castle houses a number of Sandro Chia's works of art, and functions as a sanctuary for contemplation, research and experimentation, both within wine and art.
