In june 1838, the Danish Goverment officially appointed Albert Heinrich Riise as the exclusive pharmacist fir the island of Saint Thomas, in the West Indies, and granted him monopoly status to produce alcohol in his phamacy, Initially, Albert developed rum and bitter as medise for stomach ills. In 1893 the old A.H. Riise Company received its first International recognition at the World Exhibition in Chicago.
