Château Lagrange 3. Cru Classé Saint-Julien 2013 – Classic Bordeaux with history and newfound strength

Château Lagrange 3. Cru Classé Saint-Julien 2013 is a beautiful example of classic Bordeaux from an estate that has fought its way back to the top. Today, Château Lagrange once again stands as a serious contender among the classified chateaux of Saint-Julien – and the 2013 vintage shows the house’s elegant and structured style.

Saint-Julien is known for its balance between the finesse of Margaux and the power of Pauillac – and you’ll find that balance here. A wine with classic structure, great freshness and an expression that speaks to the true Bordeaux lover.

2013 was a vintage that required careful selection and precision in the cellar – something Château Lagrange has mastered to perfection. The result is an elegant and well-structured wine with a focus on purity, fresh fruit and classic structure.

Serve at 16-18°C and should be oxygenated 1-2 hours before serving. Suitable for beef, lamb, game or classic French dishes.

History of the house

Château Lagrange was classified as a 3rd Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, prepared for the World Exhibition in Paris under Napoleon III. Over the years, the château has experienced both greatness and serious challenges – and was at times close to disappearing completely from the wine map.

After World War II, the castle struggled to sell its wines and had to sell large parts of its vineyards. Today, wines like Château du Glana, Château Lalande-Borie, and to some extent Château Gloria are based on land that once belonged to Lagrange.

The turning point came in 1983 when the Japanese Suntory Group took over the property and its approximately 140 hectares, of which only 48 hectares were planted with vines. Since then, massive investments have been made in both fields and cellar, and Château Lagrange has regained its position as one of the strong profiles in Saint-Julien.
