The story of A.H. Riise

A.H. Riise was a Danish pharmacist and scientist who settled in the West Indies in the 1800s. In addition to making spirits, he was known for his great interest in natural science and his impressive collection of plants, herbs and conch shells. Many of these collections can be seen today at the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen and in museums in Stockholm and Oslo.

Several animal species are named after the Danish pioneer. One example is the small sea urchin Clypeaster Riisei Lütken, which was found around Panama and described by Dr. Lütken in scientific articles from the Danish Natural History Society in Copenhagen in 1863. This curiosity and passion for discovery still reflects the spirit of A.H. Riise’s spirits to this day.
