Glenallachie 2009 Single Cask Batch 4 is an exclusive Danish bottling for the discerning whisky enthusiast. This 12 year matured Speyside single malt is bottled from one unique cask – #1040 – which previously held Premier Cru Classé wine. The result is a powerful and deeply complex whisky at 59.1%, created in just 323 bottles.

Distilled on November 5, 2009 and bottled in July 2022, this single cask has developed its character through full maturation in a Premier Cru Classé cask. Sourced from some of the most prestigious classified chateaux, these wine casks add layers of dark fruit, tannic structure and elegant depth to the whisky.

With natural cask strength and no compromise in filtration or dilution, this Glenallachie is a true collector’s item. The combination of the richness of the Speyside distillate and the vinous character of the cask creates a whisky with both power and finesse – a distinctive and different interpretation of the Glenallachie style.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Intense and fruit-driven with notes of blackcurrant, cherry and ripe plums. Hints of dark chocolate, spice and light toasted oak tones.

Palate: Full-bodied and structured with layers of dark berries, cocoa and vinous nuances. The Premier Cru Classé cask contributes tannin, depth and a slightly dry, elegant edge balanced by sweet malt.

Finish: Long and powerful with persistent fruit, spicy oak and a slightly dry finish.

The story behind Glenallachie

Founded in 1967 in the heart of Speyside, Glenallachie Distillery, under the leadership of Billy Walker, has gained international recognition for its uncompromising approach to cask maturation. The distillery is renowned for selecting unusual and quality-rich casks that give the whisky its distinctive character.

The Batch 4 series, bottled exclusively for Denmark, demonstrates this philosophy: unique single casks, high age, natural cask strength and very limited number of bottles. Cask 1040 is an excellent example of how Glenallachie combines classic Speyside elegance with innovative cask choices.
