Hampden Pagos Batch 3 Pure Single Jamaica Rum 52% – Tropical aged rum in sherry casks
Hampden Pagos Batch 3 is a spectacular rum from the legendary Hampden Estate in Jamaica. It combines the distillery’s famous high-ester style with the depth of exclusive sherry casks. The result is a rum of immense complexity, intense aromatics and a character that few distilleries in the world can deliver.
This edition is created as a tribute to both Jamaican rum craftsmanship and the traditional sherry casks of Jerez, Spain. The Pagos series is a special production where the rum is aged exclusively in large 500 liter sherry casks. Batch 3 consists of rum aged in barrels from Bodegas Fundador, which previously held Oloroso sherry for up to 30 years.
The rum is bottled at 52% alcohol to emphasize the balance between the depth of the sherry casks and the intense distillate of Hampden. The result is a rum with power, elegance and layers upon layers of flavor. It is especially suited to the discerning rum lover looking for something special in the glass.
Pagos Batch 3 is 100% tropically aged in Jamaica. In the warm climate of the Caribbean, the rum develops much faster than in Europe. The high evaporation – also known as “angel’s share” – concentrates the flavors and produces a more intense and complex rum.
Production follows the traditional Hampden method, which has been preserved for centuries. Fermentation is long and natural, distillation takes place exclusively in copper pot stills, and the rum is bottled without additives. The result is an authentic rum with lots of character and natural depth.
Tasting notes
- Nose: Rich and complex with cloves, roasted walnuts, blood orange, apricot kernel and cherry liqueur. Later notes of almonds, dates and a hint of coffee liqueur emerge.
- Flavor: Intense and lively with cane sugar, chestnut honey and tropical flowers. Notes of vanilla and cocoa beans add depth along with fine tannins.
- Finish: Long and rich with coconut milk and honeysuckle. Nuances of light tobacco, lime blossom, coriander, pepper rose and nuts round out the experience.
The story behind Hampden Estate
Founded in 1753, Hampden Estate is one of Jamaica’s most historic rum distilleries. The distillery is located in Trelawny Parish, an area often referred to as the “grand cru” of Jamaican rum. It produces rums of extreme aromatic intensity that have made Hampden famous among rum connoisseurs around the world.
Hampden is particularly known for its traditional production. The long fermentation, use of dunder and distillation on pot stills create rums with high ester content and deep complexity. The Pagos series is a modern project where this powerful rum meets classic sherry casks from Jerez.
