The history of the house

Kongsgaard is the epitome of passion, craftsmanship and uncompromise. John Kongsgaard is the fifth generation in Napa Valley and over the decades has built a reputation as one of the area’s most respected winemakers.

Back in the 1970s, he planted The Judge Vineyard while working as a Chardonnay winemaker at Stony Hill. Years at Newton Vineyards and studies in Burgundy followed before he founded his own winery with his wife Maggy in 1996.

The wines are made with minimal technology and maximum intuition. The cellar is carved directly into the rock of Atlas Peak, where naturally stable temperatures create ideal conditions for maturation. The result is wines with soul, precision and a unique expression that has made Kongsgaard a true cult producer.
