La Gauloise Liqueur 48% – Powerful French herbal liqueur with historical roots

La Gauloise Liqueur 48% is an intense and characterful French herbal liqueur with a fascinating history. This unique liqueur is inspired by an ancient recipe that, according to legend, dates back to Gaul. The result is a complex and aromatic liqueur that combines power, finesse and a deep herbal character.

The story goes that the recipe for this elixir disappeared over the centuries. However, in 1783 it was rediscovered by Sieur Requier, a skilled liqueur master with a reputation for both craftsmanship and a bit of alchemical talent. He found the recipe in an old grimoire and began producing the legendary liqueur again.

La Gauloise is still made using traditional methods. In the quiet cellars of the distillery, the master liqueur maker selects a variety of aromatic herbs and spices. Ingredients such as angelica, St. John’s wort, saffron, cardamom and genepi are blended with several secret botanicals. The blend is distilled twice over open fire, giving the liqueur its deep and concentrated character.

After distillation, a carefully measured amount of fine brandy and sugar syrup is added. This creates the perfect balance between strength, roundness and aromatic complexity. The liqueur then ages slowly, giving it its harmonious structure and distinctive deep flavor.

La Gauloise is a liqueur for connoisseurs. It can be enjoyed neat, slightly chilled or as a powerful digestif after a good meal. It also works great in classic cocktails, where its complex herbal aromas add depth and character.

Flavor notes

The aroma is intense with complex notes of herbs, spices and aromatic plants. Angelica, saffron and cardamom are among them.

The taste is full-bodied, powerful and aromatic with a nice balance of spices, herbs and light sweetness. The aftertaste is long, warm and complex with lingering herbal and spice notes.
