Silver Seal Whisky Company

Beenleigh is the oldest registered distillery in Australia, established in 1884 as the legal successor to the SS Walrus, a floating moonshine still that was sailed between sugarcane plantations to avoid the local police. The boat’s still was used to open the distillery, which prospered during the 20th century, out-selling its rivals Bundaberg brand during the 1960s and 70s. Subsequent decades were less favourable however, seeing it lose its market share amongst a series of ownership changes. The discontinued Beenleigh brand was resurrected by Stuart Gilbert in 2000 however, and when he sold it to VOK Beverages in 2012, they also bought the old distillery, reuniting the two and ushering in a second age of Beenleigh rum production. The distillery operates a continuous column still installed in 1981, and a copper pot still dating from 1887.

Silver Seal was founded by Ernesto Mainardi in 2000. This was Mainardi's second bottling company after the esteemed Sestane in 1979. Both companies were sold to Massimo Righi in 2010, with Ernesto's original releases becoming increasingly prized possessions by collectors.

Longmorn History

John Duff & company, which founded Glenlossie already in 1876, starts construction. John Duff, George Thomsen and Charles Shirres are involved in the company. The total cost amounts £ 20.000.

John Duff builds another distillery next to Longmorn which is called Benriach (At times aka Longmorn no. 2) Duff declares bankruptcy and the shares are sold by the bank to James R. Grant.

1970
The distillery company is merged with the Glenlivet & Glen Grant Distilleries and Hill Thomsen & Co. Ltd. own floor maltings ceases.

1972
The number of destills is increased from four to six. Spirit stills are convented to stream firing.

1974
Another two destills are added.

Seagrams take over through the Chivas & Glenlivet Group.

1994
Wash stills are converted to stills firing.

2001
Pernod Ricard buys Seagram Spirit & Wine together with Diageo and Pernod Ricard takes over the Chivas group.

Auchentoshan is a distillery in Scotland that produces whiskey and is located in the Lowlands area, where the triple distillation method has traditionally been used. Auchentoshan was founded in 1817 and is today one of the few remaining whiskey distilleries in the area

Long Pond - Jamaica
Fine Old Rum - Special bottling

This rum is produced at the closed Long Pond distillery in Jamaica. Long Pond Distillery is known for their full bodied pot still rooms and this is no exception. Long Pond Distillery still exists in Jamaica, but ceased production in 2012.

It is not known whether this bottling is a mixture of still and column distilled rum, but since Long Pond had both types of equipment, there is a possibility of a mixture - but one thing is certain - there is definitely still still rum in this single cask room. The nose is heavy on sun-ripened fruits and is full of lovely esters. The taste is also rich and classic "Jamaica" in taste - wonderful!

Port Mourant - Demerara
13 Years old Guyana Rum 51%

In Guyana there are the last two original Wooden Pot Stills in the world - one goes by the name "Port Mourant". For over 250 years these have been used to produce "Demerara Navy Rum" for the British Navy and are thus the epitome of classic Navy Rum.

The double Wooden Pot Still (Port Mourant) originates from the Port Mourant Estate, which was founded in 1732. In 1964 the still was moved to the Uitvlugt Estate and in 2000 it came to the Diamond Distillery.

To this day, Port Mourant Still produces the same type of rum as back in the olden days, a type of rum that is valued by rum blenders and aficionados worldwide. The rums are rich in flavor and possess a very deep aroma - the old Green Heartwood which makes up the majority of the cauldrons still plays a large role in developing the flavor characteristics.

Massimo Righi has now acquired a cask of rum produced by Port Mourant Still from Demerara Distillers in Guyana. It is the first rum from Port Mourant to be bottled under the Silver Seal brand, if we disregard the two 37-year-old bottlings bottled in 2013.
