Santa Sofia's headquarters and cellars are located in Pedemonte, near Verona, Italy. Pedemonte is one of the most beautifully situated and mildest zones in the classic Valpolicella area. For generations, Santa Sofia has built and maintained a great reputation as a small, high-quality producer and has for many years produced beautiful wines of the very highest quality. Santa Sofia's wines are the result of a perfect blend of ancient traditions and many years of experience added to modern technology. This wine is produced from the grapes Corvina (70%), Rondinella (25%) and Molinara (5%), which have been left to dry for 100 days. Of course, only the very best grapes are used for this Amarone. The wine has been aged for 36 months in oak barrels and 8-12 months in the bottle before release.

Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore

Through generations, Santa Sofia has built up and maintained a great reputation as a small producer with high quality and has for many years produced great wines of the very highest quality. Santa Sofia's wines are the result of a perfect blend of old traditions and years of experience added to modern technology. This wine is produced from the grapes Corvina (70%), Rondinella (30%)) grown in the Valpolicella area of ​​the Veneto region of Italy. This Ripasso has been aged 9 months in oak casks and 3-6 months in the bottle before release. The wine is produced using the "Ripasso" method, which directly translates to "passed through again". The term means adding the unpressed skins from the Amarone wines after these wines on dried grapes have finished their fermentation. This gives extra flavor, alcohol, body, character and tannin to the Valpolicella. It is an incredibly beautiful wine with an intense dark ruby ​​red color, an elegant aroma with notes of spices, a harmonious, full and fruity taste and a long and pleasant aftertaste.

Tignanello and Solaia are both characterized by a rare elegance, which is the result of an optimal growing season and the refined approach that CEO Renzo Cotarella and his team introduced with the 2004 vintage. The wine offers intense aromas of dark plums, licorice, chocolate, mocha, spices, lavender and menthol, which merge into a harmonious experience. Oak and tannins are present, but perfectly balanced – a big, monumental wine.

Tenuta Guado al Tasso is a proud representative of Bolgheri's unique terroir. The winery is located in the small but prestigious Bolgheri DOC area, about 100 kilometers southwest of Florence. Although Bolgheri does not have a long history as an appellation, only recognized in 1994, the region has quickly gained international recognition for producing wines of the highest quality.

Cont'Ugo is produced exclusively with Merlot. The vineyards grow at an altitude that varies between 45 and 60 meters above sea level in clay soil, which helps to give the wine deep complex notes, as well as aromatic character and freshness.

Il Bruciato was first produced in 2002 in one of the most difficult vintages ever for Guado al Tasso. The wine is a modern interpretation of Bolgheri's unique terroir made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The geological composition of the soil is very diverse, which gives the wine structure and complexity.

The growing season
2021 in Bolgheri was affected by a long drought that lasted from June to September. However, the winter was very rainy, which contributed to replenishing the ground water reserves in the ground. The vines therefore received the necessary soil moisture throughout the growth cycle. The spring was cool, resulting in a slight delay in bud break and flowering. The temperatures in the summer months were never too high and ensured a normal, gradual ripening phase of the grapes. The grape harvest began with Merlot at the beginning of September, continued with Cabernet Franc and Syrah in mid-September, and ended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot at the end of September.
