Château de Rieux Demi-Muid AOP Minervois 2022 – Power, elegance and southern French depth

Château de Rieux is an intense and harmonious red wine from AOP Minervois in Languedoc-Roussillon – created for wine lovers seeking richness, complexity and true southern French character. This is a wine where sun-ripened fruit, Mediterranean spices and elegant structure come together in a deeply satisfying glass.

The wine comes from Château de Rieux, beautifully situated near the Argent Double river, just 25 km from Carcassonne. The protected vineyards at the foot of the Montagne Noire provide perfect conditions for slow ripening, freshness and concentration – and you can taste it.

The grape blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Cinsault produces a wine with both power and finesse. Syrah delivers depth, dark fruit and spice, while Cinsault contributes elegance, juiciness and aromatic lift. A classic Minervois blend in a modern, refined style.

Vinification & ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality and full ripeness. After destemming – to preserve silky tannins – the must undergoes approximately 20 days of maceration at controlled temperature with regular pumping over.

The wine is first aged briefly in concrete tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir, after which it matures for one year in 500-liter demi-muid barrels. This aging method provides subtle barrel character, structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Intense garnet red color with great depth.

Aroma: Expressive nose with ripe red and black berries, tapenade, black olives and a hint of Mediterranean herbs.

Taste: Rich and harmonious with great intensity. Notes of black fruits, violets and spice are balanced by a nice freshness and fine tannins.

Finish: Long, complex and persistent with an elegant structure and mineral finish.

The history of the house

Château de Rieux has been family-owned since 1870 and is run today with the same respect for tradition and terroir that has characterized the house for generations. The location near Argent Double and the clay and limestone soils with pebbles give the wines their characteristic balance between power and finesse.
