Gravner Ribolla Gialla 2014 – Legendary orange wine from Friuli

Gravner Ribolla Gialla 2014 is one of the world’s most iconic orange wines. It is created by legendary winemaker Josko Gravner in Friuli-Venezia Giulia in northeastern Italy. Here, wine is made according to ancient traditions where nature, patience and craftsmanship are at the center. The result is a wine with depth, character and a unique style.

The wine is made from Ribolla Gialla grapes from Gravner’s own fields. After harvest, the must is fermented naturally in large Georgian amphorae buried in the ground. The grapes are in contact with the skins during fermentation, giving the wine its characteristic amber color and distinctive structure.

After fermentation, the wine is aged for a full six years in large oak barrels. The long maturation results in a wine with impressive complexity, structure and elegance. Gravner Ribolla Gialla is therefore not just an orange wine – it is a world-class wine experience that wine lovers and collectors around the world seek.

Tasting notes

  • Color: Deep amber with golden hues.
  • Nose: Aromatic aromas of apricot, peach, dried fruit, beeswax, herbs and flowers.
  • Taste: Intense and complex with notes of orange marmalade, lemon, apple, pear and wild herbs.

Serving suggestions

Gravner Ribolla Gialla is a gastronomic wine that goes perfectly with hearty fish dishes, mushrooms, light meats and mature cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a meditative wine. Serve at around 12-14°C and preferably in large wine glasses to bring out the wine’s complex aromas.

The story behind Gravner

Josko Gravner is considered one of the pioneers of the modern orange wine movement. In the late 1990s, he returned to ancient winemaking methods inspired by Georgia, where fermentation in amphorae has been used for thousands of years.

At his vineyard in Oslavia in Friuli, Gravner works uncompromisingly with nature. The grapes are grown with great respect for the terroir and the wines are made without unnecessary intervention. Today, Gravner’s wines are among the most sought-after orange wines in the world and have achieved cult status among wine lovers.
