Jean-Paul Brun Chardonnay Vinification Bourguignonne Beaujolais Blanc 2024

Jean-Paul Brun Chardonnay Vinification Bourguignonne 2024 is a characterful Beaujolais Blanc that demonstrates just how serious Chardonnay from Beaujolais can be. The wine combines ripe fruit, freshness, and elegant oak notes in a full-bodied and harmonious style.

The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on approximately 40-year-old vines in clay and limestone-rich soil. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the Burgundian vinification process gives the wine more depth and structure than the estate’s lighter Chardonnay Classic.

Vinification Bourguignonne – Burgundy-inspired Chardonnay

The name Vinification Bourguignonne refers to the method used to produce the wine. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, where the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation. During aging, bâtonnage is performed, in which the lees are stirred to add extra texture and complexity.

Barrel aging results in a rounder, creamier Chardonnay, yet the freshness remains distinct. Citrus and white peach notes are complemented by subtle hints of vanilla, toasted nuts, and a mineral-driven, slightly salty character.

An exciting white wine for grilled fish, shellfish, lobster, and light poultry. Its full-bodied style also makes it well-suited for creamy sauces, gratin dishes, and aged cheeses.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Elegant and complex with citrus, white peach, toasted nuts, and subtle notes of vanilla and oak.

Palate: Full-bodied and creamy with ripe Chardonnay fruit, fresh citrus, and a lovely mineral edge. Barrel aging adds structure without overpowering the fruit.

Finish: Long, fresh, and harmonious with mineral and slightly salty nuances, as well as an elegant hint of toasted nuts.

The Story of Jean-Paul Brun and Domaine des Terres Dorées

Jean-Paul Brun is the winemaker behind Domaine des Terres Dorées in Charnay, in the southern part of Beaujolais. For many years, he has made a name for himself with wines that clearly highlight the character of the grapes and the region’s terroir.

Although Beaujolais is primarily associated with Gamay, Chardonnay holds an important place in Jean-Paul Brun’s winemaking. With Vinification Bourguignonne, he showcases a fuller and more complex side of Beaujolais Blanc, where inspiration from Burgundy meets Beaujolais’s own fresh character.
