Taylor’s 2017 Vintage Port – 98-100 Parker Point | 99 James Suckling

Taylor’s 2017 Vintage Port is world-class port wine. When Robert Parker scores 98-100 points and James Suckling scores 99 points and calls it “Truly excellent”, you know we are at the very top end of the Douro Valley. This is a monumental Vintage Port with ageing potential for generations to come.

Since 1900, Taylor’s has released just 36 Vintage vintages – always with extreme selection and uncompromising quality. 2017 has already been compared to the legendary 1945 vintage, and the structure, concentration and depth indicate an ageing potential of 50 to 75 years. A port made for the cellar – but also for the big moments.

The color is deep ruby red with an almost purple edge. The aroma opens with violets, dark forest berries, eucalyptus and licorice. The taste is powerful, concentrated and complex with impressive depth of fruit and firm tannin structure. A huge wine that can be enjoyed on its own or with a juicy red pepper steak. Serve lightly chilled in large red wine glasses to unfold the full spectrum.

History of the house

Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman – better known as Taylor’s – has been producing port since 1692 and is one of the most iconic houses in the Douro Valley. The grapes are grown on the house’s three historic quintas: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco, all classified in the highest category, A.

Taylor’s has been a pioneer in the development of Port: they bought their own land in the Douro as early as 1744, created the first Single-Quinta Vintage and invented the Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) in 1970. Their wines are often compared to the biggest names in the wine world – Robert Parker has even described them as “reminiscent of a stellar vintage of Chateau Latour”.
