Linkwood 25 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky is an elegant and mature whisky bottled by renowned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. This bottling is part of their classic Distillery Labels series, presenting the whisky with the iconic distillery labels that have been associated with some of Scotland’s most coveted single malts for decades.

After 25 years of maturation, this Speyside whisky develops an impressive balance of fruit, sweetness and cask elegance. The long maturation gives the whisky a rounded and complex character, with the classic Speyside nuances coming to the fore.

The whisky was bottled on 18/01/2017 and comes in at a classic strength of 43%. The result is a refined and harmonious single malt that showcases both the distillery’s style and Gordon & MacPhail’s expertise in cask maturation.

Tasting notes

The nose opens with elegant aromas of ripe fruits, honey and vanilla. This is followed by soft notes of toasted oak, caramel and light spices. The taste is round and well-balanced with layers of malt, dried fruit, citrus and sweet spicy cask character. The finish is long and elegant with a soft warmth and lingering fruity nuances.

Linkwood Distillery

Linkwood Distillery was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, who was the factor of Seafield Estates in Moray and Banffshire. Named after Linkwood House, the family home, the distillery is located in the heart of Speyside – an area known for some of Scotland’s most elegant and fruity whiskies.

Linkwood has been highly respected among blenders over the years for its fine and delicate style. At the same time, the distillery’s malt whisky is also highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts when bottled as a single malt.

The history of Gordon & MacPhail

Gordon & MacPhail is a family-owned whisky house founded in 1895 in Elgin, North East Scotland. The company is known for its unique role as an independent bottler and owner of some of the world’s rarest whisky casks.

Working with Scottish distilleries, Gordon & MacPhail sends its own casks to be filled with new-make spirit. The whisky is then aged either at the distillery or in their own warehouses in Elgin until it reaches its optimal maturation point.

The vision to mature whisky longer and bottle it as a single malt was mainly driven by George Urquhart, who today is considered a pioneer of single malt whisky. The company is still run by the Urquhart family, who continue the tradition of selecting, maturing and bottling some of the world’s most coveted whiskies.
