The story behind Old St. Croix

The story begins in 1493 when sugar cane was introduced to the West Indies. The island of St. Croix – often called “The Garden of the West Indies” – quickly became the center of sugarcane cultivation and rum production.

In 1838, Danish pharmacist and adventurer Albert Heinrich Riise arrived in the Danish West Indies. Here he created spirits and blends that gained international recognition, including at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. His iconic name “Old St. Croix Brand” lives on today as a tribute to the heritage and craftsmanship that put the Danish West Indies on the world map.
