Ron Abuelo XV 15 Year Tawny Port Cask Finish is an elegant and characterful premium rum from Panama, created as part of Abuelo’s coveted 2016 Collection Finish series. The series also includes Oloroso Sherry Finish and Napoleon Cognac Finish, but the Tawny Port version has gained particular attention among enthusiasts for its depth, roundness and refined sweetness.

This 15 year old rum is positioned beautifully between the house’s classic 12 year old version and the iconic top bottling Centuria. Here you get a rum that combines mature complexity with a luxurious finish – at a price where quality and exclusivity go hand in hand.

Selected from Abuelo’s finest reserves, the rum is first aged in American oak barrels where it builds structure, vanilla notes and classic cask character. Final maturation in Tawny Port barrels adds an extra dimension of dried fruit, soft spicy sweetness and silky richness. The result is a harmonious and rounded rum with plenty of depth.

The color is warm mahogany with a copper glow, and in the glass it appears both inviting and complex. This is a room that works perfectly as a avec – preferably slightly tempered – where all the nuances are allowed to unfold.

Tasting notes

Nose: Inviting aromas of dried fruits, raisins and dark caramel, combined with vanilla and lightly toasted oak.

Palate: Round and balanced with notes of plums, cherries and port-inspired sweetness. Underlying notes of cocoa, spice and vanilla from barrel aging add depth and complexity.

Finish: Soft and persistent with elegant fruit sweetness, slightly spicy warmth and a rounded, almost velvety finish.

Ron Abuelo is produced by the Varela family in Panama, who have been working with sugar cane since the early 1900s. The distillery has built a strong reputation for quality, consistency and craftsmanship over generations. With full control over the entire process – from sugar cane to finished rum – the house ensures a consistent and high standard.
