Quinta Sardonia 2018 – Biodynamic red wine from Castilla y León

Quinta Sardonia 2018 is a complex and elegant red wine from Castilla y León in Spain. It comes from the Quinta Sardonia biodynamic winery, located near Sardón de Duero in the heart of the famous Duero region. It creates wines with great depth, balance and terroir.

The winery has around 20 hectares of land. 17 hectares are planted with vines. The fields are located at an altitude between approximately 400 and 800 meters above sea level. The high altitude provides cool nights and slower ripening of the grapes. This creates wines with freshness, structure and great aromatic complexity.

The slopes were planted in 1999 and 2000 with a number of classic grape varieties. These include Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The combination produces a wine with both Spanish character and international elegance.

Quinta Sardonia works according to strict biodynamic principles. The soil is fertilized with the farm’s own compost to maintain its natural balance. The vines are treated with natural plant extracts and the work in the field and cellar follows the lunar cycle. The goal is to create wines that express nature and the terroir as purely as possible.

The result is a wine with great intensity, dark fruit and great structure. Quinta Sardonia 2018 is a wine with both power and elegance, perfect with hearty dishes, lamb, beef or mature cheeses.

The story behind Quinta Sardonia

Quinta Sardonia was established in 2000 as a biodynamic winery in Castilla y León. It is located just a few kilometers from Quintanilla de Onésimo, where Peter Sisseck has his famous Pingus cellars. The project provided the opportunity to work with young vines and explore how different grape varieties thrive in the area’s terroir.

The first vintage was produced in 2002. Only around 6,000 bottles were made from two-year-old vines. The wine quickly became a success. Already with the 2004 vintage, Quinta Sardonia achieved 96 points with Robert Parker. This made it the first wine to achieve such a high rating from such young vines.
