The Debate Box Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Napa Valley 2017 – Three terroirs, one grape, one unique taste experience

The Debate Box Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is an exclusive wine collection from California’s Napa Valley, where three iconic vineyards interpret the same grape – Cabernet Sauvignon – in a single vintage. This special box gives wine lovers a rare opportunity to experience how terroir, altitude and soil create significant differences in style and character.

The concept behind The Debate is to let the vineyards speak. Three wines are produced according to the same philosophy and in the same vintage, but with grapes from different vineyards. The result is a fascinating comparison, with each bottle revealing its own expression of Napa Valley’s diverse terroir.

The 2017 vintage delivers Cabernet Sauvignon with deep color, great concentration and great structure. These are wines with intense fruit, elegant tannins and a complexity that makes this box perfect for collectors and serious wine enthusiasts alike.

Contents of The Debate Box

  • Denali Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 – Alcohol: 14.5%
  • Artalade Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 – Alcohol: 14.8%
  • Sacrashe Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 – Alcohol: 15.1%

The vineyards

Located in St. Helena,Denali Vineyard faces west to southwest overlooking the Joseph Phelps vineyards at around 500 feet elevation. The gravelly and sandy soils provide optimal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and the field is shared by several renowned winemakers including Michel Rolland, Celia Welch, Philippe Melka, Thomas Brown and Jean Hoefliger. The warm location produces early ripening grapes with small, concentrated berries and great personality.

Artalade Vineyard is part of the Montagna Estate on the famous Pritchard Hill, surrounded by iconic vineyards such as Colgin, Chappellet and Tusk. The vineyard is located at around 1,100 feet altitude on the edge of the Vaca mountain range. The soils are volcanic and iron-rich with a touch of clay, resulting in wines with great structure, intensity and minerality.

Sacrashe Vineyard contributes a powerful and concentrated expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. The combination of altitude, sunny days and cool nights creates wines with deep color, rich fruit and an impressive balance of power and elegance.

Flavor profile

  • Aroma: Intense aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, violets and spice with subtle notes of cedar and minerality.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated with layers of dark berries, plum, cocoa and fine tannins.
  • Finish: Long and structured aftertaste with a great balance between fruit, acidity and barrel.

The history of the house

The Debate was created with the ambition to show the importance of terroir in Napa Valley. By producing wines from different vineyards, but with the same grape and vintage, the project allows wine lovers to experience how soil, elevation and microclimate shape the character of the wine.

The result is wines that serve as both an educational tasting and some of the most exciting Cabernet Sauvignon interpretations from Napa Valley.
