Velier MMW Wedderburn 11 Year Continental Aging is a rare and deeply fascinating Jamaica Single Rum, created for the serious rum lover who wants to understand the true meaning of aging. This 100% pot still rum from the Monymusk distillery is aged for 11 years – but in a European climate – and bottled at a powerful 63.9%. The result is an intense but more refined interpretation of classic Wedderburn style.

This bottling is part of a historic experiment created in collaboration between Velier and E&A Scheer. For the first time, rum lovers will have the opportunity to directly compare two identical distillates from the same distillery, same style and same age – one tropically aged in Jamaica and the other continentally aged in Europe. The influence of climate is significant, and this version shows how slower, cooler aging creates a different balance and structure.

The blend consists of 2 casks of MMW from 2008 and 10 casks of MMW from 2007, all distilled in Jamaica in classic Wedderburn style. The ester content is 243.5 gr/hlpa, giving the characteristic Jamaican aromatic intensity, but in a more rounded and controlled version than its tropical counterpart.

Bottled at cask strength with no additions, this is an authentic and uncompromising rum that clearly demonstrates the difference between tropical and continental aging. An ideal bottle for collectors, connoisseurs and those looking to delve deeper into high-ester Jamaica rum.

Tasting notes

Color: Deep amber with golden reflections.
