Foursquare 2005 Velier Magnum Series #1 Elliott Erwitt
16 Year Barbados Rum 61%

The Foursquare rum distillery is owned by R.L. Seale & Co, a family business with a traceable history of rum making in Barbados dating back to 1820. The modern company dates back to the 1920s when Reginald Leon Seale established a distribution business in the island's capital - Bridgetown. The company's success brought expansion, and throughout the latter half of the 20th century it acquired brands such as ESA Fields and Doorly's for its portfolio. In 1995 they opened the Foursquare Distillery, converting an abandoned sugar factory in Saint Philip parish. Operating as a double retort pot still and a three-column continuous still, its first spirit was produced in 1996. Foursquare produces Single Blended rum, combining its pot and column stills, and under the direction of Sir David Seale and his son, Richard, Foursquare is has become one of the most respected producers in the world.

Velier was founded by Casimir Chaix in Genoa in 1947 as an importer and distributor of wine and spirits. In the 1980s they were still a small family business with less than ten employees. All this changed in 1986 when it was bought by Luca Gargano, a former brand ambassador for Saint James, who at the time was still in his twenties. Under his leadership, they selected their first single cask whiskey in 1992, and their first rum in 1996. In the decades that followed, Velier has gone on to become one of the most collectible brands in the business, and Gargano has positioned them as one of the leading authorities and bottlers of rum all over the world.

Compagnie des Indes - Ping 15
10 years Trinidad Rum 61.7%

It must be said with some reverence. "Ping"… a word shrouded in mystery, the mere sound of which can make the teeth water and wallets spontaneously jump out of the pockets of spirits geeks the world over, but what is the Ping range and why does it deserve a place in your already swelling barbarity? In this article you get the whole story behind our beloved "prestige" bottlings.

In the old days, Juuls bottled many casks, and although of course the ambition has always been to tap only the best, it happened that once in a while we came across a cask that was truly exceptional. One of those dishes where rarity and quality go into a higher unity. And when you find one, it deserves a little extra fanfare.

In 2005, our director's 30th anniversary in the wine and spirits business coincided with an almost miraculous find: we were given the opportunity to purchase a bourbon hogshead with Ardbeg 1972. It is almost superfluous to mention how powerful a whiskey this is. Expensive, of course, but definitely not a chance you let slip. It was decided that this extraordinary Ardbeg should be bottled to celebrate director Michael Madsen's milestone. The name became Ping No. 1, because Ping was Michael's nickname among friends. The Ardbeg was accompanied by 3 other very special whiskies, all released in 2005 to celebrate the anniversary – one for each of the year's seasons. Ping No. 2 became a 1977 Highland Park, No. 3 a Macallan from 1972 and No. 4 a Ledaig from the legendary 1973 vintage. With this quartet of superb malt whiskeys, the Ping series was born, and the style was laid out, clear and distinct: only the best of the best.

Since then, new spirits have occasionally qualified to carry the name. In 2007, Ping No. 5: a Mortlach from 1957, bottled after exactly 50 years of aging in connection with Michael's 50th birthday. In 2011, when he was able to celebrate 25 years of business at Juul's Vin og Spiritus, he again dug deep for 4 special casks, this time not only in Scotland, but also in the damp cellars of Armagnac. Of these 4 bottlings, a Jamaica rum from 1977 in particular has become legendary.

The Ping series are our absolute best bottlings. The crème de la crème.

S.B.S. – Single Barrel Selection

1423 - World Class Spirits is a premium spirits importer that started back in 2008. 1423's head office is located in Ringe, and is home to hundreds of rum barrels. This was a hobby project from the start, but has since become a big business. In addition to the many barrels of rum, they also bring many different distillers to Europe, as well as their passion for rum through one of the S.B.S. Own brands such as 1423, which are single barrels from all over the world. Over the last 4 years alone, more than 50 different expressions, of different rum styles and origins, have already been released.
All expressions are bottled at high ABVs, some at cask strength. 1423's rum is either sourced directly from distilleries or from a rum broker, after which the barrels are sent to Denmark, where they are stored in their own warehouse. Depending on the available rum and casks, every now and then they decide to fill the rum into a new cask to give it a finish that suits the rum's flavor profile. Here, each barrel is inspected individually and remains in their warehouse until they judge that the rum is of top quality. Once the rum reaches this peak, it is hand-bottled in their warehouse, completing the cycle of the craft in a way they see fit.
