Brazilian Alberto Santos Dumont was a man of wealth who lived in Paris during the turn of the previous century and was known as a patron, philanthropist and aviation pioneer.
Always one to push boundaries, Alberto Santos Dumont spent most of his life fighting common perceptions in an attempt to make things better, faster and greater. As heir to some of the largest and best sugar estates in Brazil, he had the moneytary means to explore, challenge, and push the boundaries of the seemingly unbreakable laws of people.
In fact, in 1900, Alberto Santos Dumont became the first to navigate an airship around the quite young Eiffel Tower. Finding it difficult to see the time on his chained pocket watch during his fligts, he came up wtih the idea for the World´s first wrist watch created by his good friend, jeweller Louis- cartier. Named "Santo de Cartier", it remains one of the most popular Cartier watches.
