Castello Romitorio
Brunello di Montalcino 2017

The flagship of Castello Romitorio, the phenomenal Brunello di Montalcino, is made from pure Sangiovese from Romitorio's own fields in the northwestern area of Montalcino. The grapes are harvested manually and carefully sorted before and after destemming, and the wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and 12 months in the bottle before release.

Since 1984, Castello Romitorio has dedicated itself to studying, exploring and refining the Brunello de Montalcino wines. At the heart of this exploration is the close bond between Italian artist Sandro Chia and Brunello expert and cellar master Franco Martini. Equally close is the bond between Sandro's son, Filippo, and Franco's son, Stefano, who today runs Castello Romitorio. An in-depth knowledge of, and respect for, the local landscape, its heritage and traditions, helps to shape everything that Castello Romitorio does, whether in the field, in the winery or in the cellar - and the latter has not only oenological function, but like the rest of the castle houses a number of Sandro Chia's works of art, and functions as a sanctuary for contemplation, research and experimentation, both within wine and art.

Gaja Conteisa
Barolo 2018

Barolo 2018 Conteisa from Gaja is an iconic wine that represents Langhe's viticultural expertise. Produced by one of Italy's most renowned winemakers, Angelo Gaja, this Barolo is the result of a careful selection of Nebbiolo grapes from the prestigious Cerequio vineyard, located between the towns of La Morra and Barolo. "Conteisa" derives from the Piedmontese term meaning "strife", referring to an ancient territorial dispute between these two towns. Vintage 2018 was characterized by favorable climatic conditions with a cold and rainy winter followed by a warm but balanced summer, which provided optimal grape ripening. The vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a long maturation in oak barrels, which gives the wine an aromatic complexity and an elegant tannic structure.

Gaja Dagromis
Barolo DOP 2015

In 1995, Gaja took over the very famous winery Gromis in La Morra. Included in the deal was 10 ha. vineyards in the heart of the 25 ha. large Cerquio vineyard, which is one of the most famous in Barolo.
Barolo "Dagromis" (until 2000 called Gromis) is composed of wines made from Nebbiolo grapes harvested in two vineyards in La Morra (Cerequio and Silio), and a single plot in Serralunga, all with calcareous and clay soils.
Dagromis has a nice intense dark red colour. The bouquet exudes violets, wild roses, white pepper. In the taste you will find tones of red grapefruit, wild raspberries, lingonberries and mild spices which dominate. In the wine you will find all the virtues of Gromi's special "terroir" with plenty of character, intensity and complexity.

Vinification takes place in Gaja's wine cellar in Barbaresco, and the different parcels are vinified separately. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks with the grapes' own yeast. After malolactic fermentation, the wines are first matured for one year in barriques (30% new: half from Allier in France and the other half from other countries in Europe). The wines are then put together and the wine is further matured for 18 months in large wooden barrels.
Dagromis has a good structure, and finally a nice fatness. It has a very clean and charming style, and has the potential to age for around 10 years, but also tastes fantastic already. If you drink it young, it deserves an oxygenation in the decanter. Here you will experience that depth and fatness come out more in the wine.
