At Andresen, there is a rather schizophrenic relationship with the Vintage Port category and the owner and external face of the house, Carlos Flores, sticks conservatively to the best vintages and duly refrains from tempting fate in the more questionable vintages, and it pays off in the form of consistently high quality . Just 2% of all bottled port wine is made up of the Vintage Port category and the battle is tough.

With a ruby color, almost opaque. A very intense aroma with balsamic, floral and dark chocolates notes. It has a long, fresh and very persistent finish.

Churchill’s vintage 2011 has a dense purple color, a huge concentration in the nose of dark fruits like blackberries and cherries. The port wine is still unredeemed and young, but the potential is clear, and the structure of the taste lends itself to a storage port of the very large ones, which the price also reflects. 97 points and Wine spectator! Like all Churchill Port wines, the Vintage Port is made according to the old traditional methods. The grapes are trampled underfoot in granite layers in the Quinta high up in the Douro Valley. The grapes from each small plot are stepped on and treated separately. In the spring, the wine is transported in barrels

Croft, Quinta da Roeda, Serikos 2017
Serikos means 'silky' in Greek, and this is Croft's first super-premium vintage from the oldest vines on Quinta da Roêda, planted between 1889 and 1900 in the wake of phylloxera. Serikos is made exclusively from these so-called 'cultural heritage plots' and is deep and youthful with ripe but gentle mint fruit, also an herbal print with a touch of rose petals (but a touch of stewed plum also came out at other tastings); so sweet and juicy that the tannins are almost hidden in the palate, but they are definitely there, fine-grained with nice mint, herbal freshness in the middle of the palate and on to the mouth-watering fresh finish.
