Only the finest reserves are selected for this edition. The rum is first carefully matured in American oak barrels, where it builds its classic Abuelo signature of caramel, vanilla and deep barrel body. It is then aged in Oloroso sherry casks from Spain, which elevates the expression with dark fruit, roasted nuts and an elegant, slightly dry finish.

The name is deliberately chosen and tells the story of both the character of the wood and the places that inspired the series. Oloroso refers to the traditional sherry style from Spain, known for its rich, nutty and slightly oxidative profile – exactly the nuances that make this rum so irresistible.

Tasting notes

Color: Deep mahogany with warm amber nuances.

Aroma: Roasted nuts, dried fruit (raisins, figs), caramel and vanilla – with a fine hint of orange peel.

Taste: Rich and round with notes of toffee, dark chocolate, sherry notes, warm spices and elegant oak. The Oloroso casks provide a balancing dryness that makes the whole extra refined.

Finish: Long, warm and complex with lingering notes of nuts, dried fruit and spicy oak.

The story of Ron Abuelo

Ron Abuelo is produced in Panama by the Varela family, who have been growing sugar cane and refining the art of distillation for generations. The house is known for its uncompromising line of quality – from its own fields to aging in tropical conditions where the climate intensifies maturation and adds depth and concentration.

The name “Abuelo” means grandfather and is a tribute to the family’s origins and proud traditions. The XV series – and especially the Finish collection – shows how Ron Abuelo masters the art of combining the house’s aged reserves with selected finish barrels that add new layers of aroma and flavor.
