Barros Colheita 1974 – 50 years of freedom in one unique bottle

Barros Colheita 1974 – 50 anos de liberdade is a port with soul, history and exceptional finesse. This exclusive bottling was created as a tribute to the year 1974, when the Carnation Revolution changed Portugal forever. It’s not just a wine, but a historical symbol – encapsulated in a bottle that speaks directly to collectors, Port lovers and connoisseurs looking for something truly extraordinary.

With this Special Edition, Barros combines the deep heritage of the Douro with modern artistic freedom. The bottle is decorated by renowned Portuguese artist Teresa Rego, whose colorful and energetic expression reflects the vibrancy, intensity and elegance of the wine. With only 300 bottles allocated to Denmark, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a true jewel in the world of Port.

A vintage with legendary status
1974 is considered one of the great years at Barros. This Colheita was bottled in 2024 after a full 50 years of maturation in oak barrels, giving the wine exceptional depth and complexity. The international recognition speaks for itself with 98 points at IWSC and 95 points awarded by Richard Mayson. A Port that combines power, elegance and perfectly balanced sweetness.

The grapes – the essence of classic port
The wine is created from four classic port grapes, each contributing its own character:

  • Touriga Nacional: Structure, depth and intense aroma
  • Tinta Roriz: Backbone, spice and firmness
  • Touriga Franca: Soft fruit and floral notes
  • Tinta Barroca: Sweetness, warmth and charm

Tasting notes
The color is intense amber with vivid light reflections. The aroma unfolds in layers of dried fruit, roasted almonds, figs and oriental spices, accompanied by warm notes of plums and caramel. The taste is rich, powerful and harmonious with perfectly balanced sweetness. Notes of raisins, mocha, orange marmalade and deep spices lead to a long, intense and majestic finish where the ripe barrel tones beautifully round off the experience.

The history of the house
Founded in 1913, Barros is one of the most respected names in port today. The house is particularly known for its exceptional colheitas, long barrel aging and uncompromising approach to quality. For generations, Barros has created wines with authenticity, elegance and impressive ageing potential. Today, Barros is a modern and internationally recognized Port house – still firmly rooted in the proud traditions of the Douro, where craftsmanship and passion go hand in hand with innovation.
