Viña Carmen was founded in 1850 by Christian Lanz, who named the winery after his wife, Carmen. Thus began the history of one of Chile’s oldest and most traditional wineries.

For generations, Carmen has helped shape the development of Chilean wine. The winery gained particular international attention in 1994 when the Carménère grape was identified in vineyards where it had previously been mistaken for Merlot.
